"There is a fine line between art and design and for me it is irrevocably blurred, each bleed into the other. I use design principles of composition and hierarchy when I create an artwork, carefully orchestrating each individual element so I know exactly where the viewer will be looking and then secondly and thirdly, taking their eye on a journey. When it comes to design, I use my artistic skills in illustration in my design process, beginning on paper and working my way up to digital Adobe programs, and Procreate."

Backstory
Drawing since before I could write, I looked to the environment around me, depicting animals from the country landscape I called home. I've never considered art a choice, it's not something that I just woke up and decided to do. I've always felt it was more intrinsic than that, that art is something I have to do, like breathing.
I drew because it was fun, not realising that I was practicing, laying down the foundation that would see me creating incredibly intricate fineliner works from the age of 18.
At only 10 years old I designed my first magazine, bringing it to school to show all my friends the horoscope and DIY sections. I was only able to push my love for design further in highschool, studying both Visual Communication Design and Studio Art. I was able to learn that as practices, they can be employed on their own and together, that I can extend a hand into each.
I often have people ask me why I didn't study Fine Art at University, why I would choose Communication Design instead. For me, the answer is quite simple. I had spent my whole life as an artist, I had taught myself how to draw and had picked up techniques along the way in school, I felt that at Uni, I wouldn't be able to push myself and grow more than what I already had. Whereas with Design, I felt I had so much more room to grow, as upon leaving high school I had very little experience with digital programs. Having a strong arts background greatly elevated the quality of my design work and my ability to visualise and sketch my ideas in my design process.
At 21, I was able to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Design to work full time at a local print store, building on my design skills and getting the chance to give back to the community. While working full-time, I am entering my art in local exhibitions and selling through two art galleries.
I look forward to where my design and art takes me...
